Summary:
The guy at the next table just bit the big one and
his cell phone won’t stop ringing. When Jean answers his phone, her
fateful act dials her deeply into the dead man’s mysterious business
and his eccentric family – not to mention trips to the afterlife and the
black market. This imaginative and dark-edged new comedy is the
captivating odyssey of a woman forced to confront her assumptions about
morality, redemption and the need to connect in a technology-obsessed
world. (Mature themes and some strong language.)
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
Jean (25-35): is quirky, curious and bookish. Pretty
but in a quiet way. She does not stand out in a crowd. She is a Holocaust
museum worker.
A Dead Man, Gordon (40-50): is mysterious, secretive
and dead. People love him even though they don’t know why.
Gordon’s Mother, Mrs. Gottlieb (60-80): is stoic and
aristocratic. Holds herself high but lets her neuroses fall through the
cracks. She loves furs and detests technology.
Gordon’s Widow, Hermia (35-50): is cool and
detached. She is trying to find meaning in her newly ended marriage and
decide what to do with her newfound freedom.
Gordon’s Brother, Dwight (30-45): is quiet and
passionate. He has been pushed aside for most of his life and has lived in
the shadow of his brother. He works at a stationary store.
The Other Woman/The Stranger (20-45): is mysterious
and confident. When she walks into a room and is immediately noticed.
Every man wants her and every woman wants to be like her.
