Driving Miss Daisy WRITTEN BY: Alfred Uhry DIRECTED BY: Sharon DeCoux
Based on author Alfred Uhry's life with his grandmother, the play depicts Daisy's relationship with her African-American chauffeur, Hoke. Set between 1948 and 1973, we see Daisy, a Jewish woman of Atlanta, adjusting to the “indignities” of her perceived loss of independence when son Boolie hires Hoke to drive her. This warm and often funny play is the first of a trilogy by Uhry, originally starring Morgan Freeman and Dana Ivey and later adapted to film, with Freeman as Hoke and Jessica Tandy as Daisy.
